Terror From Twycross

The Rare we’ve all come to know and love has taken us, the collective audience, through a wide range of settings and through the Spectrum (Ha!) of mental states of mind. From the extremely silly skit-levels of Conker’s Bad Fur Day, the light hearted walk about Spiral Mountain, to the white-knuckle skull-shaped roller coaster rides of Donkey Kong Country 2, Rare can paint the most immersive worlds in gaming’s long history. Now let’s shift gears for a sec- You know how the tech wizards at Capcom and Epic can make engaging universes and scenarios of doom, gloom, and terror by now with such great games such as Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War, right? Well why not have Rare apply that same tactic of crafting a world of brutal survival against a persistent and blood thirsty inhuman foe with a compelling story, perfect controls and stunning visuals? Seriously, who’d not want to see Pixar of Monsters Inc, and Ratatouille fame make a scary short film just to do it? Rare is STILL the industry’s top in-game universe-maker, and to think about the spine-chilling, gore spilling, googley-eyed monsters we could see from those creative geniuses makes me shiver in anticipation…

It’s not like we’ve not been treated to bits and pieces of Rare’s darkside before: Mad Monster Mansion was spooky (Freaked me out when I was younger anyway…), Witchy World was terribly depressing, Speaking of Spooky- Conker’s horror level was very nasty, Tawfret was my favorite horror level though… The alien world from Jet Force Gemini was dreadful! (In the cool gives you the creeps way that we’re going for!) Poor Juno lands on a swampy muck ball and is stalked by zombie-like disfigured alien Ant-Drones in the misty dreary marshes pressing forward with no other alternative to hold your wits about you and your machine gun tighter. I wonder how that “Urchin” project would’ve been… After two candy-coated romance fests from the gooey nougat hear t of Pinata Island, would it be too much to ask for a “Horror” game from the Legendary Developer? Or does Microsoft consider Gears of War to be their horror series? I’m sure Resident Evil 5 will keep me occupied in the meantime, though. J Have a great weekend, everyone! Don’t let the blood-crazed homicidal maniacs bite!

Who am I kidding? I'd go nuts is Grabbed by the Ghoulies 2 was announced! :P
